GIVEAWAY #2!

Ok, here we go with GIVEAWAY #2:

What do you love about your job?

The Prize? Kristen Billerbeck's "She's All That" book. For someone who's more into non-fiction than fiction, I must confess, I LOVE Kristen Billerbeck's Spa Girls Collection. Her books take you through the lives of three girlfriends and in turn, allows you to escape the real world. So, if you are looking for a great fiction reading book, this just might be the one!

When it comes to our jobs, it's so easy to focus on the negative aspects. As many of you know, in addition to being a Life Purpose Coach, I am also a high school teacher. As a high school teacher, I could easily allow myself to focus on all the things that I really don't care for which include:

* Grading papers

* Dealing with irate parents

* Being at work everyday at 7:00 a.m.

* Lesson Plans-having to prepare on my time-off away from work

But, if I start to focus on those things that I LOVE about my job, those things that I find exciting, not only am I more thankful for what the Lord has blessed me with, but my days are filled with so much more joy. So, what do I love about teaching?

* Working with kids

* Seeing the "light bulb" go off when they finally get something

* Seeing kids dive into their assignments and in turn, doing an outstanding job

* Being able to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them

* Seeing them experience new things for the first time

* Joking with them

* Them joking with me

* Having kids come back after they have graduated and telling you thank-you for pushing them to do their best

You know, when I focus on the things I really enjoy about my job, those other things don't seem as bad. So, what is it that you love about your job?

I am REALLY looking forward to reading your responses!

I love several things about my job... I get to work with my husband in ministry, which is great! I get to spend time connecting with people on a deeper level, and really get to know who they are. I get to share with them what God has done in my own life, which I hope brings some encouragement to them in their walk with Him.

Great question Jen. You are right in that it is so much easier to linger on things that bother you about your job or working in general. However, it is nice to take a moment and reflect on the good things and be thankful for them. Here it goes...

I am thankful first and foremost for the financial security my job provides. Being fresh out of college, I am also grateful for the opportunity to learn and gain experience. I have had the privilege of getting to know a kind, strong business woman in the person of my employer as well.

I work as a church secretary/ministry assistant. Everyone thinks this is a wonderful and easy job. It is not.
Support staff have to please not only all staff members, but every member of the church as well. We are often patronized, treated with little esteem, and spoken to as if we were mentally challenged! Sadly many church members, treat us as if they were our boss, and they are bossy with us, with never as much as a thank you, or please, they just make demands. Even so, I LOVE my job. Why? When it pays little, and when I am mis-treated and expected to do the mundane task, along with making coffee and keeping the church office kitchen clean? Because God is here! God is here, more than at a secular job. Here I can see in every mundane task, in every word of encouragemnt that I give to people who come to our door, seeking help, and hope...a tiny thread linking all I do to heaven. I know that I do what I do, because of my Lord. That what I do, is going to resonate in heaven for all eternity. Here I can stop and seek His face, in the midst of turmoil. Here I can listen to Christian music at my work station all day. Here I can openly share the love of Christ, and not be afraid that someone will complain about it, or try to have me fired because of it. Here I don't need to go into the mission field, it comes through the front door, right to me!!! What a joy! No matter how poorly I am treated by church members (and there are those who are a joy to work with), no matter how I am patronized by their speech and thier tone, I know that I am beloved by my Lord, and that He appreciates what I do even if others are not demonstrating His love to me, and the other support staff that I work with. It is because I can be who I am at work...a daughter of the King, that I love my job.

I love that I help get people to the mission field. I enjoy praying for missionaries, and with them. One of my favorite things, though, is knowing some great people - my coworkers, and seeing how the Lord works in all our lives.
You're right... this list does make the bad stuff look insignificant.
